Is Free Credit Report.com A Scam? Yes.
by SAB on Feb.06, 2009, under News
A customer at work recently got hosed by FreeCreditReport.com. The site, which is owned by Experian (one of the 3 Credit Agency beheamoths), led him to belieive that he could get his Credit Report for free. Imagine that! Instead, they signed him up to a monthly subscription service that monitored his credit (and ate his money) all while luring him into a false sense of security with those awful Free Credit Report songs.
I told him what I tell everyone who asks me where they can get their Credit Report and Score… go to AnnualCreditReport.com, a site owned by all three Credit Agencies that was was birthed by their obligations to the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act. Don’t be fooled by all the others, AnnualCreditReport.com will get you one free report per agency, per year. You can also get your credit score for about $10.
Also, as a desperate request to FreeCreditReport.com: please bring back your previous spokesman from your “I’m Thinking of a Number” ads. He was pretty cute, and didn’t sing either.
DO NOT be fooled by the adorable redhead.
Head over to Annual Credit Report if you want your credit report.
