Seriously–WHAT is happening with Lincoln Way?
by SAB on Oct.13, 2011, under Ames, Iowa
Lincoln Way has been messed up for the last 2 weeks now – and I can’t see any actual improvements happening. I *have* noticed a number of new holes get opened up, some BIG ones in fact. I even heard they ruptured an emergency 911 fiber optic line by accident! (Nice work, guys.)
And just WHAT are all the giant holes for? Did the city find pink ectoplasmic goo in the sewer system? Is Vigo the Carpathian coming?
Making matters worse, the sidewalk is closed on both sides (however there is a noticeable lack of ANY “sidewalk closed” signs) making things extremely dangerous for both bicyclists and motorists as the bikes literally have *nowhere* to ride.
In the meantime I guess I’ll be avoiding the main thoroughfare in Ames. No big deal. ![]()
Does The Salvation Army Discriminate Against Gays?
by SAB on Dec.22, 2009, under Ames, Iowa, Opinion
The short answer is yes. For a longer answer, read Lisa Neff’s article at 365GAY.com – it’s enlightening. Not only does the Salvation Army passively discriminate against gays but they also actively lobby Congress to fight equality for gays.
When you see that red kettle just keep on walking… why don’t you give money to a charity, local or national, that doesn’t discriminate? Here are some good options:
American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU)
Check your local area and see if there are any causes worthy of your support. A little change can do a lot of good – just make sure you like where that change is going!
